Our Anderson Appropriate Technology Center is applied science at its best. This unique working space focuses on demonstrating, researching, and building tools/techniques that solve problems for small-scale farmers around the world.
In this tour, you’ll discover how simple technologies can improve food, water, and shelter for millions of people. These technologies include transforming sand into water filters, manure into energy, and bicycles into power tools. Beyond technical ingenuity, you’ll learn how food goes from the field to the market, and how we’re using simple solutions to change lives.

Our Global Farm is anything but typical. Through our tour, you’ll experience farming at its most creative, with unique demonstrations, plants, and techniques being used to help farmers and urban gardeners in developing countries.
There are seven different settings on our farm, with crops, techniques, and animals from around the world. ECHO is home to one of the largest collections of tropical food plants in the United States. Plus, our Urban Garden is a tour standout, with some unconventional, but effective ways to grow crops where there’s little to no soil.
We strongly encourage advanced, online ticket purchases due to social distancing.
Groups of ten or more:
Due to limited space and to ensure the best experience, groups of ten or more must reserve a group tour.
If you have questions or would like to schedule a group or school tour, contact Russ Luther by email or call (239) 543-3246.
Our tours are walking tours, however special accommodations can be made for those with mobility challenges. Contact us before you come if you have concerns; we want to ensure your best experience possible.
UNFORTUNATELY, NO: Both the Global Farm and the Anderson Appropriate Technology Center are working spaces with ongoing research, training, and farm activity.
